Did I Pay Too Much For This 4 Pack of Beer?: Mixed Pack of Humble Sea Brewing

How much is really too much money for a four-pack of beer?

Let’s say I paid $27.00 for this mixed 4-Pack of Humble Sea beer. …Alright, well, I actually DID pay $27. That’s before taxes and tip.

It’s was from a beer bar/bottle shop in Fresno called Out Of The Barrel. This place is only a couple blocks from my house.

Buying it a the brewery would cost $20. I don’t believe you can mix packs at the brewery. Out Of The Barrel lets you pull from same-four-packs and make your own 4-pack, if you want.

So, I am paying $7 over what I would in Santa Cruz where the Humble Sea taproom is.

Now that leaves us with one question: Did I pay too much for this beer?

Here is what some friends on Twitter think:

Well there you have it. Beer geeks don’t believe I paid too much, that’s all I need to know. I’m guessing anybody else would freak out at the price tag, but they don’t understand.

Rare beer that is really good and close by? Worth the $27.00.

Humble Sea Brewing’s Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood Parity Can Art is Straight Magic

I don’t know who does the beer names and can-art for Humble Sea Brewing but they are really connecting.

It doesn’t hurt that Humble Sea’s beer (Santa Cruz, CA) is super tasty too.

Humble’s new “Mr. Foggers” foggy double IPA is the latest in a series of rad beers from them.

Labels have a lot of effect over the enjoyment of beer. I have no science stats to back that claim up, just a feeling. BUT YOU KNOW I’M RIGHT!

I can’t remember having a bad beer with really good label art. Is that physiological thing? I feel like it’s more than that. Like, if you take the time to be extra with your label art, you probably do the same with your actual beer.

Keep it up, Humble Sea.

I plan to post more of my label favorites here. Please stay reading.

Anatomy Of A Hangover

25 West IPA

The drinking started on an empty stomach. That was my first mistake.

I ate a packed lunch of salami, cheese, Cheese-Its, cookies and water (in that order) at 11:30 in the morning. Drank a diet soda around 3:00. Don’t be jealous of me.

Once off work, at 5:30, we went to a new beer bar by my house, Out Of The Barrel. Here was my playlist:

Beer One: 25 West from Moonraker Brewing.

  • Clear IPA
  • 6.6% ABV
  • I rated it a 4.
  • Full pour

Beer Two: Some Grass from Moonraker Brewing.

  • Hazy IPA
  • 7% ABV
  • I rated it a 4
  • Full pour

Beer Three: Unknown: It was either Yeastbound & Down from Moonraker, or Tiger Uppercut from Fieldwork (I guess I wasn’t paying close attention).

  • Hazy IPA
  • 8% or 8.5% ABV
  • Rated…4.2?
  • 12oz pour

The Out Of The Barrel drinking stops. There is some relaxing. I buy a four-pack of Humble Sea’s Coast Malone.
