Anatomy Of A Hangover: Liquid Gravity’s Mo’ Diggity & East Brother’s Gold, Edition

East Brother Brewing Gold IPA and Liquid Gravity Mo Diggity DDH IPA

I write these hangover posts to help future me and maybe future you, have less hangovers and stuff.

I had three beers last night and woke up with a Level 2 (scale of 1 to 5, five being bad) hangover.

Beer One: East Brother Brewing: Gold IPA. 7.3%. Hops unknown. 16oz can.

Beer Two: Liquid Gravity Brewing: Mo Diggity DDH WCIPA. 7%. All Mosaic Hop. 16oz can.

Beer Three: East Brother Brewing : Gold IPA (same as beer one).

Drinking session: 8PM to Midnight.

Setup: Foot long tuna Subway sandwich at 6:00 PM (slightly embarrassing – work dinner). No food afterwards.

Water: 16oz of water during drinking session.

Normally I drink two 16oz beers a session with an occasional 12oz or 16oz beer. And I usually don’t have more than a Level 1 hangover (aware I had beers the previous night but no headache or sluggishness).

Verdict: I think the combo of only one glass of water, not a lot of food for a base and a slight uptick in alcohol consumed all contributed to this morning’s headache heavy hangover.

Lesson: Hydrate, dumbass.

The Golden Hour of Beer Drinking

The Golden Hour of drinking and photography, combined

I don’t think it’s talked about enough: A good beer buzz.

Maybe you are a normal fuck. You don’t need beer or pot to open up an environment for you to act like a normal person.

Sadly (or not), I need a beer or two to actually enjoy things. To think like a norm.

That came out wrong; I enjoy things without beer. I am not THAT bad off. But my anxiety filled mind quiets down a bit after a good beer or two.

The right music and a second beer in? I am usually feeling pretty good. A nice buzz, man. That’s what I like, what I need. It’s a big part of why I like beer.

That’s the “Golden Hour” in beer drinking. For filmmakers it’s that last hour of light, when everything looks magical on film.

For beer drinking it’s that buzz after two beers. It doesn’t last long, maybe an hour – one foot in reality, awake and still making good decisions, one foot into a mind altered state where everything is kinda fun.

I am not afraid to admit it. A nice little buzz is what I look for most drinking sessions. I like it. It’s nice. It should be enjoyed and talked about more often.

Cheers to a nice buzz! 🍻🎉

Saturday Night Drinking Thread: Pineapple Socks Edition

Out Of The Barrel in Fresno

My session starts with a beer run to Out Of The Barrel to pick up some cans for the next two days. I refrained from getting a beer there ‘cause I had to get back to the family with lunch. 😕

Bay of Plenty from Almanac

A 6.5 hazy that is very light on the haze. It was a label buy. Pretty forgettable.

Saturday Night Drinking Post: Three Beers Edition

Good evening fellow beer (and maybe blogging) enthusiast. I’m starting late tonight because of a busy day of being a dad, watching the ending to Spike Lee’s HBO Epicenters series on 9/11 (it’s good) and the fact that I only have three beers.

I knew I wasn’t going to be able to buy more beers today and I only had three left so I waited as long as I could so I could have a decent drinking session and maybe have a productive buzz.

Live Drinking Blog:

  • Mammoth Brewing’s “Yosemite Pale” is beer number one. A beer I am familiar with, nicely priced, and a little bit old-school but not in a bad way.
  • So, do I have this right: GABF (virtual) and Craft Brewers Conference (in person) happened roughly at the same time this year? … um ookay?…
  • 10:18: New Beer Alert! 🚨 Wren House Brewing session IPA. Super stoked to have Phoenix’s Wren House in Fresno somehow:
  • Watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Chrystal Skull because that is what’s on at the moment (Showtime). It’s still a large disappointment but it also isn’t that terrible.
  • Another nice night in Fresno:

12:29: I’m back! I had a bit of a family emergency but everything is cool now. On to my 3rd and final beer:

1:33AM PST: What a rip. Never achieved a buzz. Just disappointment. Oh freaking well. Maybe next Saturday.

Harrison Ford & Ridley Scott Having a Fosters

I can’t tell you how much I love this picture of Harrison Ford and Director Ridley Scott, working out stuff before filming Blade Runner.

As a big Harrison Ford nerd (I have a podcast about him) and a beer nerd, this picture checks all my boxes.

Seeing Harrison laying on the floor is so very… Harrison. And it’s so very beer too. Having a couple beers and being creative and relaxed is what lo-fi beer drinking is all about and I love it.

I wonder what scene or character trait the two were working out. Maybe they were just talking about life. It’s magical what a couple of Foster oilcans can do.
